Halloween Trick

Year of Jane Russell: Day 304

Okay, I guess you can say this is a Halloween trick, because I posted it before, but this magazine cover is the most festively appropriate piece I have for today. Happy Halloween!

Palling Around With Egan

Year of Jane Russell: Day 302 & 303

I guess I am really distracted these days (and on a writing deadline) because I forgot to post yesterday! Here are two candids of Jane with Richard Egan at the time of Mamie Stover.

Flaming Touch Up

Year of Jane Russell: Day 301

Here’s a fun candid during the Mamie Stover shoot showing Jane touching up her make up while chatting with costar Richard Egan. Stephanie McGraw is slightly visible fixing the red “Flaming Mamie” wig.

MMM Review in Film Quarterly

Year of Jane Russell: Day 300

I received a welcome package in the mail today – the Fall 2021 issue of Film Quarterly featuring a book review of my Jane Russell biography!

Watered Down Mamie

Year of Jane Russell: Day 299

The Revolt of Mamie Stover was based on a novel of the same name by
William Bradford Huie. Because of the Production Code, the film ended up being a severely watered down version of the source material.

Putting the Flame in Flaming Mamie

Year of Jane Russell: Day 298

Even though Jane wore a red wig for The Revolt of Mamie Stover, she dyed her own hair to match. Here she is with hairdresser with Stephanie McGraw putting the flame in “Flaming Mamie.”

Flaming Mamie

Year of Jane Russell: Day 296

After finishing Hot Blood, Jane got a much needed break by relaxing in Acapulco where her production company was filming Run for the Sun. Rested up, she went to Hawaii to shoot The Revolt of Mamie Stover.

Hot Blood Wrap Up

Year of Jane Russell: Day 294 & 295

I was so distracted doing a virtual presentation about Jane Russell last night that I forgot to post! So, here are the last two photos I have from Hot Blood showing Jane with Cornel Wilde, Luther Adler, and Joe Maritzer.

Slight Authenticity

Year of Jane Russell: Day 292

Hot Blood may have not been the film Nick Ray originally envisioned, but there were aspects of it he was still immensely proud of which he felt accurately reflected customs of the Romani people.

Hot Blooded Portrait

Year of Jane Russell: Day 291

Here’s another stunning portrait of Jane in Hot Blood.
