Jane’s WAIF organization was always a priority, so when she was in Hawaii filming Mamie Stover, she went about setting up a Hawaiian chapter, which eventually came to pass.
The Revolt of Mamie Stover was directed by Raoul Walsh whom Jane adored. She called him Father Walsh and stayed in touch for the rest of his life, sending him telegrams every year on Father’s Day.
Clark Gable got top billing in The Tall Men which Jane didn’t mind. She loved working with him and director Raoul Walsh.
Here’s another shot of Jane in the gold mesh dress designed by Michael Woulfe for Macao. It reportedly weighed over twenty pounds and took three people to help her into it! It also made a lot of noise when she moved, so Jane had to be extra careful about what the mics picked up when the cameras were rolling.
